Rock Creek Trail Detour 2024
The Rock Creek Trail in Rock Creek Park between the Rays Meadow Park and Susanna Lane access points will remain closed until on or about May 24, 2024. The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day.
MARC Access Pedestrian Detour in Silver Spring
A long-term detour is in place to allow the closure of the pedestrian bridge to the MARC platform on the second level of the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center. Access to the MARC platform is located on Ripley Street at the south end of the MARC platform. Ripley street is best accessed by taking the elevator, escalator or stairs to the third level of the Transit Center. An
ADA-accessible pedestrian detour is in place along Ripley Street. Please follow on-site signage.
Long-Term Closure of Arliss Street
On or about July 10, 2023, crews will implement a long-term closure of Arliss Street between Piney Branch Road and Garland Avenue to allow crews to install utilities and construct the Purple Line's Long Branch Station. The
Long Branch Library and Flower Branch Apartment parking lots along Garland Avenue will be accessed by turning north on Flower Avenue and east on Plymouth Street (see detour below.) No parking locations on Walden Road
and other streets will be strictly enforced. Please follow the posted signage. Work may occur 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays and weekends, as needed through August 2024.
Sligo Creek Trail Detour
On January 23, 2023, crews will implement a long-term lane closure and new traffic configuration on Wayne Avenue between Sligo Creek Parkway and Mansfield Road. This will impact Sligo Creek Trail and Sligo Cabin
Neighborhood Park. A detour for the trail will be established around the work zone, and the parking lot will be closed.Please follow posted signage. Work may occur 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., weekdays and weekends, as needed for the next 12 months.
Ellin Road Long-Term Closure and Traffic Shift
Ellin Road remains closed from Veterans Parkway (MD 410) to Hanson Oaks Drive. A long-term traffic switch is in also in place on Ellin Road between Emerson Place and Hanson Oaks Drive. Two-way traffic will be shifted to the north side of Ellin Road and the south side will be closed to allow the continuation of Purple
Line construction.
Long-Term Pedestrian Detour on Wisconsin Avenue and Elm Street
Beginning on or about November 14, 2022, a long-term pedestrian detour along Wisconsin Avenue will be implemented around the Purple Line work zone. The crosswalk on Wisconsin Avenue between Elm Street and Waverly Street will be closed and a new crosswalk with signals at Elm Street will be available for use. Pedestrians will need to use the signed detour depicted in the graphic below.
Georgetown Branch Trail Detour
To facilitate construction of the Purple Line and Montgomery County’s Capital Crescent Trail, Montgomery County has established an interim trail for the public’s use. Any questions regarding the interim Georgetown Branch Trail should be directed to Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation.
Closure of Bonifant (West)
On May 11, 2020, the Purple Line implemented a closure of Bonifant Street (west) between Ramsey Street and Georgia Avenue for construction. The closure will be in place through the end of 2021 and will remain in place until work is complete. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the road closure. Pedestrians must obey construction signs and stay out of the work zone for their safety and the safety of the construction crew.
Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center (SSTC) Long-Term Work Zone Pedestrian Detour
The Purple Line has activated zones I, II, III, and IV of the long-term work zones adjacent to the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center. Wayfinding signage can be found posted around the work zones. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends.
