April 12, 2012On April 12, 2012 the MTA held a Neighborhood Work Group meeting for Kenilworth Avenue, the Riverdale Park Station, and the surrounding area. At this meeting the MTA presented new plans for the Purple Line alignment along Kenilworth Avenue. The new plans would place the alignment in the median of Kenilworth Avenue instead of along the west side, reducing the potential impacts to and displacements of businesses. The new plans were developed in response to community concerns. The MTA, working with the State Highway Administration and Prince George's County, reexamined the plans for Kenilworth Avenue. After analysis and study, it was determined that Kenilworth Avenue would not need to be widened and could accommodate the Purple Line in the median.
