Business Spotlight

MTA understands that operating and maintaining a business during construction is challenging. We recognize that the disruption resulting from construction may discourage some people from visiting local businesses. We are committed to helping potentially impacted businesses along the project corridor continue to provide goods and services during the upcoming construction phase with as little disruption as possible.

As a part of the Business Sustainment plan, the Purple Line will highlight businesses that proudly serve the communities along the corridor.

Our first featured business is Signarama in Silver Spring.

Signarama is a full-service sign company delivering powerful marketing and advertising tools to help businesses build their brand and grow.

Signarama Silver Spring opened its doors in May 2010 during the recession, and has worked hard to establish a strong presence in the greater Silver Spring area. Originally located on Georgia Avenue near Seminary Road, the company relocated to the West Silver Spring community of Lyttonsville on Brookville Road in March 2015 with plans to expand its business and lower operating costs.

Stacey and other business owners in Lyttonsville are preparing to welcome the new Purple Line station to their neighborhood. Currently the area is only served by buses, but the Purple Line will serve the community directly, and also will provide quick convenient access to the entire Metro system. “The Purple Line is a long time coming,” Stacey explains. “I grew up in this area, and I’m used to the spider web Metro where you have to go all the way downtown (DC) to get to Bethesda.”

In the signage industry, Stacey and her staff typically either travel to their customers, or work by internet or over the phone. Surprisingly in Lyttonsville, Stacey and her staff have found that a good portion of her business is from contractors who come to the area patronizing other businesses and stop in.

“Some of my employees and contractors take public transportation and it’s a little bit round-about in order to get here. To me, any time you can streamline public transportation on a rail system, I think it makes it more accessible and it’s better for everybody.”

Stacey is hoping the light rail will encourage business diversity and development in the area.

“If you expand the business uses and then you add the Purple Line, now you have a variety of people traveling here to take advantage of the services.”

Signarama is the largest sign company in the world with over 850 locations in 50 countries, and they specialize in all types of outdoor signs, indoor signs, banners, trade show displays, vehicle graphics, window graphics and more. They are best known for their high-quality solutions.
