The table below is a list of active construction along the Purple Line alignment. Notifications can be sorted by work zone for updates on specific locations and also received via text and email through Purple Line Transit Partners’ notification system. Sign up to receive these alerts.

AllAs work increases along the alignment, the Purple Line team remains committed to keeping everyone safe. Pedestrians and motorists are advised to follow construction signage and use the open sidewalk(s). For the safety of the public and our construction team, entry into construction work zones is not permitted.
College ParkOn June 28, 2022 crews will perform overnight utility relocations at the intersections of Baltimore Avenue (US Route 1) at Rossborough Lane and Baltimore Avenue (US Route 1) at Fraternity Row for two consecutive nights 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.  During this time traffic signals will be disabled, police officers and flaggers will direct traffic.  
College ParkBeginning on or about June 30, 2022, crews will implement a daily closure of Diamondback Drive from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. between Rossborough Lane and Hotel Drive for two consecutive days, weather permitting. Access will be maintained to the local businesses and parking lots.
College ParkBeginning on or about June 13, 2022, resurfacing of Campus Drive between University Boulevard (MD 193) and Presidential Drive began. Resurfacing will progress west on University Boulevard from Adelphi Road to 24th Avenue through June 24, 2022. Work may occur in two shifts weekdays and weekends, as needed, through completion. Temporary lane closures and uneven surfaces will occur during this effort.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonCrews continue utility relocations along Ellin Road (MD 433) between Harkins Road and Emerson Place. Temporary lane closures may occur 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends, as needed.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonOn September 29, 2021, long-term lane closures were implemented on Veterans Parkway (MD 410) between Riverdale Road (MD 410) and Ellin Road for approximately 15 months for water line relocation. An additional work zone has been established within vacant lots adjacent to Veterans Parkway (MD 410) and Annapolis Road (MD 450). Work will take place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed through completion of the work.
Long BranchCrews will implement daily intermittent sidewalk closures to facilitate sidewalk repairs on Arliss Street and Piney Branch Road (between Arliss Street and University Boulevard) through May, weather permitting. Pedestrians must follow on-site signage for use of open sidewalks, which may change daily.
Long BranchBeginning on or about May 22, 2022, resurfacing of Piney Branch Road between Arliss Street and University Boulevard will take place through the end of May. Work will occur in two shifts, weekdays and weekends. Temporary lane closures and uneven surfaces will occur during this effort.
Riverdale ParkCrews continue utility relocations overnight on Riverdale Road (MD 410) between 58th Street and Veterans Parkway (MD 410) through June, weather permitting. Temporary lane closures may occur 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed.as needed.
Silver SpringBeginning on or about May 31, 2022, crews will add a 2nd crew to continue to advance underground utility relocation work.  The 2nd shift may take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, with makeup days on Friday and Saturday, as needed. Work will occur within the long-term lane closure on Wayne Avenue between Dale Drive and Springvale Road. A noise waiver is in the process of being reviewed for activities related to the Purple Line project. For more information please review the noise waiver here. Silver SpringBeginning on or about April 25, 2022, five parking spaces on southbound Georgia Avenue adjacent to Bonifant Street will be restricted through June. These spaces will be blocked for use during construction.
Silver SpringCrews continue utility relocations on Ramsey Avenue between Bonifant Street and the Silver Spring Transit Center through June. Work may take place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed. This segment of Ramsey Avenue near Bonifant Street will be closed to vehicular traffic through the completion of the work. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the closure.
Silver SpringCrews continue utility relocations on Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) from Sligo Creek Parkway to Flower Avenue. Temporary lane closures may occur 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends, as needed. Overnight work will occur intermittently, as scheduled by utility companies. Temporary sidewalk closures will occur with flagging operations as needed.

Silver SpringBonifant Street (East) will be closed to vehicular traffic between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street overnight Wednesday, June 22, Thursday, June 23, Sunday, June 26, and Monday, June 27 between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting. At least one sidewalk will be maintained for pedestrian access to Bonifant Street during the road closure. Please follow signage posted around the work zone.
Silver SpringOn October 11, 2021, a long-term traffic pattern change was implemented on Bonifant (East) between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street to reduce the road to a one-way eastbound street. Work may take place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed. Long-term lane closures and intermittent sidewalk closures will occur. ADA-complaint pedestrian, vehicular, and business access will be maintained at all times with reduced on-street parking. Flagging operations may be utilized when needed.
Silver SpringOn May 11, 2020, the Purple Line implemented a closure of Bonifant Street (west) between Ramsey Street and Georgia Avenue for construction. The closure will remain in place until work is complete. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the road closure. Pedestrians must obey construction signs and stay out of the work zone for their safety and the safety of the construction crew.
Silver SpringCrews continue utility relocations along eastbound Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) from Silver Spring International Middle School (SSIMS) to Springvale Road through June, weather permitting. Work may take place 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed. A long-term lane closure with a jersey barrier will be established in the far-right eastbound lane, access to driveways will be maintained. The sidewalk adjacent to the work zone will be closed and pedestrians will be directed to use the nearest crosswalk via signage.
Silver SpringCrews continue utility relocations on the north side of East Wayne Avenue from Sligo Creek Parkway to Bradford Road. Temporary lane closures may occur 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends, as needed through July. The north sidewalk will be closed, and all pedestrians will be directed to use the sidewalk on the south side through completion of the work.

Additionally, a daily, temporary lane closure may occur 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends, as needed. Access to bus stops will be maintained during this time.
Silver SpringOn February 22, 2022, crews implemented temporary lane closures overnight at the intersection of Georgia Avenue (US 29) and Bonifant Street for underground utility relocations through July, weather permitting. Work may take place 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends, as needed.
University BoulevardCrews continue utility relocations on University Boulevard (MD 193) between Piney Branch Road and Riggs Road through June. Temporary lane closures may occur 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed.

Access to local businesses will be maintained. On an as-needed basis, pedestrian detours will be implemented and signed.
University BoulevardCrews will close the service road alongside westbound University Boulevard (MD 193) between 15th Avenue and Edwards Place for utility relocations through June, weather permitting. The service road will be closed to all traffic, and parking will be restricted. Access to all driveways and parking lots will be maintained from University Boulevard. Work may take place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed.
University BoulevardCrews continue utility relocations at the intersection of Edwards Place and University Boulevard (MD 193) through June, weather permitting. Temporary lane closures may occur 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed. Parking adjacent to the work zone may be limited during work hours.

Work will take place overnight weekdays and as needed, weekends through June, weather permitting. Temporary lane closures may occur 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with a minimum of one lane in each direction on University Boulevard (MD 193) and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650) maintained around the work zone. Access to local businesses will be maintained. Pedestrian detours will be implemented on an as-needed basis.
