The table below is a list of active construction along the Purple Line alignment. Notifications can be sorted by work zone for updates on specific locations and also received via text and email through Purple Line Transit Partners’ notification system. Sign up to receive these alerts.

AllAs work increases along the alignment, the Purple Line team remains committed to keeping everyone safe. Pedestrians and motorists are advised to follow construction signage and use the open sidewalk(s). For the safety of the public and our construction team, entry into construction work zones is not permitted.
College ParkNew: On June 1, 2021, the Purple Line implemented a pedestrian detour along Baltimore Avenue (Route 1) between Hotel Drive and Fraternity Row. This detour will remain in effect until approximately August 31, 2021. The bus stop adjacent to Ritchie Coliseum will remain open during this time. The detour can be viewed here: bit.ly/3yw0KSQ
Greater Lyttonsville/WoodsideNew: Beginning on or about the week of June 14, 2021, crews will begin tree clearing on the north side of the CSX tracks between 16th Street (MD 390) and Fenwick Lane in preparation for utility relocations. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and as needed, on weekends for approximately 2 weeks.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonNew: On June 13, 2021, crews will implement a one-night closure of two eastbound lanes of Annapolis Road (MD 450) between Veterans Parkway (MD 410) and Ardwick Ardmore Road, weather permitting, for underground waterline relocation work. Work may take place overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonNew: Beginning on or about June 14, crews will close the rightmost westbound lane of Annapolis Road (MD 450) between 76th Avenue and the Glenridge Shopping Center entrance, for two days, weather permitting, for underground waterline relocation work. Work may take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonUpdate: Crews continue daytime and overnight waterline relocations on northbound Annapolis Road (MD 450), south of Veterans Parkway (MD 410), through the end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends. Temporary lane closures will occur.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonCrews have resumed utility relocations along Ellin Road (MD 433) between Harkins Road and Emerson Place. Work may take place on weekdays, and as needed on weekends, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Temporary lane closures will occur.
Glenridge / New CarrolltonNew: Beginning on or about June 8, 2021, crews will implement long-term closures of the leftmost eastbound and westbound lanes of Veterans Parkway (MD 410) between Riverdale Road (MD 410) and Annapolis Road (MD 450) for approximately 15 months for water line relocation. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and as needed, on Saturdays.

Long BranchNew: Beginning on or about June 14, 2021, crews will perform utility relocation on Barron Street between Piney Branch Road (MD 320) and Gilbert Street through July 30,2021, weather permitting. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturdays as needed. Temporary lane closures will occur. Flagging operations will be utilized.
Long BranchReminder: Crews have remobilized equipment at the Plymouth Tunnel. We ask that members of the public please obey construction signage and stay out of work zones for your safety and the safety of our personnel.
Long BranchUpdate: On or about April 22, 2021, crews began overnight utility relocations on Piney Branch Road (MD 320) between Barron Street and University Boulevard (MD 193) through the end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings, and as needed, Friday nights through Sunday mornings. Temporary lane closures will occur, with at least one lane in each direction open to traffic. Access to the shopping center will be maintained.
Long BranchUpdate: Crews continue utility relocations along Piney Branch Road (MD 320) between Arliss Street (MD 594D) and University Boulevard (MD 193) through approximately the end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends. Temporary lane closures will occur. Flagging operations will be in place as needed. The sidewalk between University Boulevard and the Long Branch Trail will be closed for the duration of the work. Access to residences will be maintained.
Riverdale ParkUpdate: Beginning on or about June 14, 2021, crews will resume underground utility relocation at the intersection of River Road (MD 431) and Rivertech Court for approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Temporary lane closures along both River Road and Rivertech Court will occur. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends.
Riverdale ParkReminder: Crews have resumed utility relocations along Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) between River Road (MD 431) and Riverdale Road (MD 410). Work may take place overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends. Temporary lane closures will occur.
Riverdale ParkUpdate: On or about December 7, 2020, crews began performing underground utility work on Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) northbound and southbound from Riverdale Road (MD 410) to Rittenhouse Street, which is extended through the end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Temporary lane closures with flaggers will occur.
Riverdale ParkReminder: On or about Sunday, January 24, 2021, crews began utility relocation work on northbound Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) between Quesada Road and Rittenhouse Street extended through the end of June, weather permitting. The overnight work may take place 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Expect nightly closures of the northbound right-hand lanes. Access to residences and WMATA bus stop #3003333 will be maintained.
Riverdale ParkUpdate: Crews will continue to perform underground utility relocations on Riverdale Road (MD 410) between Mustang Drive and Veterans Parkway (MD 410) for the month of June, weather permitting. Work may take place Monday through Friday—and on weekends, as needed—7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Temporary lane closures will occur.
Riverdale ParkCrews have resumed daytime and nighttime utility relocations along Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) between Campus Drive and Riverdale Road (MD 410). Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends. Temporary lane closures will occur.

Silver SpringUpdate: The closure of right eastbound lane on Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) from Mansfield Road to Sligo Creek Parkway that began on or about November 9, 2020, will extend through the end of June for utility relocations. Ride On bus stop #27070, located at the southeast corner of Wayne Avenue and Mansfield Road, will be relocated to the southwest corner of Wayne Avenue and Mansfield Road while the lane closure is in effect.
Silver SpringReminder: Crews are performing utility relocations on Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) from Fenton Street to Sligo Creek Parkway. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., during the week and weekends on an as needed basis. work may take place on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Overnight work will occur intermittently, as scheduled by utility companies. Temporary lane and sidewalks closures will occur. Flagging operations will be in place as needed.
Silver SpringUpdate: On or about March 15, 2021, crews began utility relocations at the intersection of Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) and Sligo Creek Parkway through the end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends. Temporary lane closures will occur and flagging operations will be in place.
Silver SpringUpdate: On or about April 28, 2021, crews began underground utility relocations on Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) at Fenton Street through the end of June, weather permitting. Temporary closures of the right lane of westbound Wayne Avenue will occur. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends.
Silver Spring On or about March 1, 2021, crews began waterline relocations along the right lane of eastbound Wayne Avenue (MD 594A) from Sligo Creek Parkway to E. Wayne Avenue entrance of the Plymouth Tunnel through June , weather permitting. Work may take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend and night work will occur on an as-needed basis. Temporary lane closures will occur. Flagging operations will be in place as needed.
Silver SpringUpdate: On or about December 21, 2020, crews began performing water line relocations on Bonifant Street (MD 594C), between Georgia Avenue (US 29) and Fenton Street, through the end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m, as well as overnight and on weekends, as needed. Temporary lane and sidewalk closures will occur. ADA-complaint pedestrian, vehicular, residential, and business access, as well as reduced on-street parking on both sides of the street, will be maintained at all times. Flagging operations will be in place as needed.
Silver Spring On or about Wednesday, February 3, 2021, crews began performing utility relocations on southbound Georgia Avenue (US 29) between Bonifant Street and Wayne Avenue through the end of June, weathering permitting. Work may take place 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Temporary right lane closures will occur.
Silver SpringNew: On or about April 12, 2021, crews began to implement temporary lane closures at the intersection of Georgia Avenue (US 29) and Bonifant Street for underground utility relocations for approximately five months, weather permitting. Work may take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
Silver SpringNew: Beginning on or about April 30, 2021, crews will implement temporary lane closures at the intersection of Georgia Avenue (US 29) and Bonifant Street for waterline work for approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Work may take place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday and from 7 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Sunday. A noise waiver is in the process of being reviewed for activities related to the Purple Line project. Silver SpringNew: The right-hand lane of southbound Georgia Avenue (US 29) from Wayne Avenue to Bonifant Street is closed for emergency repairs through the end of June.
Silver SpringNew: Beginning on or about June 14, 2021, crews will close southbound Ramsey Avenue from the Silver Spring Transit Center bus entrance to Bonifant Street (MD 594B) for approximately three weeks, weather permitting, to relocate an underground utility. Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Vehicular access to the private garage located at 1110 Bonifant St. will be provided.
Silver Spring Update: On May 11, 2020, the Purple Line implemented a closure of Bonifant Street (MD 594B), between Ramsey Avenue and Georgia Avenue (US 29), for construction.Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and as needed, on weekends. The closure will be in place until further notice. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the road closure. The parking garage adjacent to Bonifant Street will only be accessible via Dixon Avenue. University BoulevardUpdate: On or about March 3, 2021 a long-term lane closure of the westbound right lane was implemented to facilitate utility relocations along University Boulevard (MD 193) between Riggs Road (MD 212) and Guilford Road. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week, and as needed, on weekends, over the next 3 months, weather permitting. Access to businesses, driveways, and bus stop will be maintained.
University BoulevardCrews have resumed utility relocations along University Boulevard (MD 193) between Piney Branch (MD 320) and Riggs Road (MD 212). Work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and as needed, on weekends. Temporary lane closures will occur.

University BoulevardNew:  Beginning on or about May 14, 2021, Crews will relocate utilities at the intersection of University Boulevard (MD 193) and West Park Drive overnight through end of June, weather permitting. Work may take place at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and, as needed, on Fridays. Temporary lane closures will occur.
University BoulevardNew: Beginning on or about May 18, 2021, crews will relocate waterlines along University Boulevard (MD 193) between Piney Branch Road (MD 320) and Riggs Road (MD 212) overnight for approximately seven weeks, weather permitting. Work may take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and, as needed, on Fridays. Temporary lane closures will occur
University BoulevardUpdate: Beginning on or about June 1, 2021, crews will close the service road alongside westbound University Boulevard (MD 193) between 15th Avenue and Edwards Place for utility relocations. The service road will be closed to all traffic, and parking will be restricted. Access to all driveways and parking lots will be maintained from University Boulevard. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and as needed, on weekends.
