Testing & Safety

Live wire testing of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) began in summer 2025, and will gradually extend in sections across the alignment.

See the map below for information on current testing locations.

During LRV Testing

What to Expect

  • Traffic may be stopped and held by police officers or flagging crews until LRVs clear the briefly closed intersections.
  • Testing may occur between 9:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m. Drivers should expect minor delays during this time.
  • Electronic message signs installed prior to testing and will remain for the duration of testing.
  • LRVs are operated by fully trained and certified operators.
  • LRVs will accelerate and brake at varying speeds and the horns and bells will be used periodically.
  • LRVs are quiet, producing about the same noise level as cars and trucks.

For Your Safety

  • Avoid distractions and focus on driving safely around the work zone.
  • Reduce speed and be mindful of flaggers and police.
  • Obey traffic signs and signals.
  • Pedestrians and micromobility users should always use crosswalks and obey signage when crossing roads and track.
  • Consider all LRV high-voltage overhead power wires energized and dangerous.
